While having a website that appeals to the masses is a great idea, you should make sure your website makes it easy to choose your products over those of your competitors. Here are a few tips to get you started.

Don't Over-Complicate Page Layouts

When you design a website with simplicity in mind, it helps people find what they're looking for. Making a complicated layout will only frustrate your potential buyers, and in turn, you'll have fewer sales. Make your navigation easy to find and understand. You'll be surprised how much more business you'll have just by being considerate to people who don't want to figure out complicated, intricate layouts.

Your Fonts Should Be Easy to Read

There are a lot of interesting fonts out there, and some are hard to read no matter what the size. Don't choose those fonts. In fact, don't choose the fonts that are hard to read at any size. A font that you can read at 8 points will be easier to read at 12 points (which is the size your website's font should be at). A couple of good examples are Arial and Times New Roman – which is why these are the industry standard. These fonts are easy to read at any size and are perfect for websites.

Don't Cram Your Website

While presenting testimonials and the like on your website can be a good thing, too many can mean a quick demise for your Internet presence. Instead, make use of whitespace. This space doesn't actually have to be white, but it does have to be wide open. When you want to emphasize something specifically, you can surround it in whitespace so the reader pays more attention to what's being said. When you have a large, required chunk of text, breaking it up with whitespace can also give your visitor the space they need to breathe.
